Groundwater trends during 1985 to 2019 in a critical groundwater area of northeastern Arkansas

D. L. Leslie et al.

Summary: The alluvial aquifer in the Mississippi River Valley is a crucial irrigation water source for agriculture in the Lower Mississippi River Basin. However, overexploitation in the Cache River Critical Groundwater Area (CRCGA) has led to decline in groundwater levels and impact on crop production. Farmers have invested in on-farm reservoir-tailwater recovery systems for secure irrigation. Recent measurements show improved groundwater level trends due to increased precipitation and use of surface water irrigation.

A hydrological simulation dataset of the Upper Colorado River Basin from 1983 to 2019

Hoang Tran et al.

Summary: This article presents a hydrological reconstruction of the Upper Colorado River Basin using hourly temporal resolution and 1-km spatial resolution from October 1982 to September 2019. The validated dataset includes various hydrologic variables such as streamflow, water table depth, snow water equivalent (SWE), and evapotranspiration (ET). These datasets provide a long-term simulation of natural flow for one of the most over-allocated basins in the world.

Conceptual Framework of Connectivity for a National Agroecosystem Model Based on Transport Processes and Management Practices

Jeffrey G. Arnold et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility of a national agroecosystem model, proposing to divide the conterminous United States into process domains for simulating and managing processes at relevant scales. The new connectivity framework has the potential to greatly improve national conservation and environmental assessments conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Assessment of the ParFlow-CLM CONUS 1.0 integrated hydrologic model: evaluation of hyper-resolution water balance components across the contiguous United States

Mary M. F. O'Neill et al.

Summary: Advancements in computational efficiency and Earth system modeling have led to high-resolution models of terrestrial hydrology, particularly important for understanding complex fluxes of moisture and energy. Studies using the ParFlow-CLM model have provided a process-based understanding of the continental water cycle, with evaluations showing promise but also identifying areas for improvement. The results highlight the importance of evaluating all hydrologic components and fluxes for a comprehensive validation of water balance models.
