Source apportionment and human health risk assessment of trace metals and metalloids in surface soils of the Mugan Plain, the Republic of Azerbaijan

Junho Han et al.

Summary: The study identified pollution sources on the Mugan Plain using the PMF model, with fossil fuel combustion being the main source contributing to noncarcinogenic and carcinogenic risks. The assessment results showed a noncarcinogenic risk for children, but no risk for adults.

Pollutant source, ecological and human health risks assessment of heavy metals in soils from coal mining areas in Xinjiang, China

Haiwei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the pollution characteristics and sources of heavy metal elements in the Zhundong mining area in Xinjiang for the first time, as well as evaluating the health risks and influencing factors using Monte Carlo simulation. Results showed that coal combustion, transportation, and atmospheric dust were significant sources of heavy metal pollution in the area. The research contributes to better soil management, remediation, and pollution control in Xinjiang's mining areas.

Heavy metal pollution and ecological risk assessment of tailings in the Qinglong Dachang antimony mine, China

Guangfei Luo et al.

Summary: The research analyzed the content changes, geochemical behavior, and ecological risk assessment of heavy metals in Qinglong antimony mine tailings, focusing on antimony and arsenic's chemical forms and their relationship with physical and chemical properties. Results showed excessive concentrations of antimony, arsenic, copper, and cadmium in the tailings, while lead and chromium moderately exceeded background levels, and zinc was slightly below. The study also indicated that antimony and arsenic posed serious environmental risks, while chromium, cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc imposed low risks, consistent with the pollution levels found.

Spatial Distribution and Environmental Risk of Arsenic and Antimony in Soil Around an Antimony Smelter of Qinglong County

Yingping He et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the concentrations of arsenic and antimony in the soils around the antimony smelter were higher than background values, mainly in the residual form. The distribution of arsenic and antimony in soils was influenced by land-use type, altitude, predominant wind direction, and distance from the pollution source.

Summary: This study evaluated the concentrations of heavy metal elements in farmland soil around the plain of Beijing and identified different safe utilization zones, proposing corresponding governance principles and management control strategies. The results showed that low-risk utilization areas dominated the study area, with the risk gradually weakening from the city center to the periphery.

Summary: The concentrations of eight heavy metals, except for Pb and Cr, were above background levels in Guizhou soils. As, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr, Cd, and Ni reached pollution levels, while Hg fell into the category of moderate contamination. Cd and Hg posed considerable or very high potential ecological risks.
