Systematic calculation of finite-time mixed singular vectors and characterization of error growth for persistent coherent atmospheric disturbances over Eurasia

Courtney Quinn et al.

Summary: The study presents a systematic approach to generate finite time or mixed singular vectors (MSVs) for ensemble numerical weather prediction (NWP), aiming to adjust the structures and growth rates by calculating covariant Lyapunov vectors. A data-driven model is derived to compare MSVs and SVs for specific states, and the spatiotemporal properties are compared through an analysis of the dynamics of the 2010 Russian heatwave.
