Post-fire mechanical properties of carbon steel and safety factors for the reinstatement of steel structures

Tom Molkens et al.

Summary: This paper provides guidance on the post-fire material properties and safety factors for assessing and retrofitting existing steel buildings. A statistical evaluation of mechanical data from 718 tests collected from 19 peer-reviewed articles and theses is conducted, proposing adjusted safety factors and reduced reliability index based on economic and social considerations.

Composite timber-steel encased columns subjected to concentric loading

L. Kia et al.

Summary: The novel composite timber-steel encased columns proposed in this study effectively combine the advantages of timber and steel, resulting in increased load carrying capacity, stiffness, and ductility. Experimental evaluation and analytical expressions both demonstrate the superior performance of the composite columns compared to bare timber columns under concentric axial compression.
