Review of Asphaltenes in an Electric Field

Umer Farooq et al.

Summary: This paper reviews asphaltene behavior in an electric field, discussing the structure, electric properties, and interactions of asphaltenes with electric fields. State-of-the-art techniques for asphaltene electrodeposition using electric fields and the influence of various factors on the deposition process are also discussed in the review.

Solvent Effects on the Structure of Petroleum Asphaltenes

Yuan Yang et al.

Summary: Neutron total scattering was used to investigate the impact of a solvent on asphaltene behavior, showing that more unstable asphaltenes exhibit greater aromatic stacking on a local molecular scale. Moreover, dispersed asphaltenes demonstrated an increase in aromatic stacking as temperature increased, suggesting an entropic driving force for assembly driven by solvent depletion interactions.

Effect of the heteroatom presence in different positions of the model asphaltene structure on the self-aggregation: MD and DFT study

Ali Ekramipooya et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of adding nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, and other heteroatoms to different positions of a model asphaltene structure on the self-aggregation process. The results showed that the diversity and positioning of heteroatoms played a crucial role in forming asphaltene aggregates.
