Non-linear effects of outward foreign direct investment on total factor energy efficiency in China

Xiongfeng Pan et al.

Summary: This study examines the non-linear impact of outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) on total factor energy efficiency (TFEE) in China, finding that the effect of OFDI on TFEE transitions slowly and smoothly between high and low regimes with changes in opening-up level, industrial structure, and human capital. The thresholds for these transition variables were identified, indicating that increasing OFDI in China can enhance TFEE, particularly in regions with above-threshold levels of opening-up, industrial structure, and human capital.

Does digitization improve green total factor energy efficiency? Evidence from Chinese 213 cities

Da Gao et al.

Summary: The Digital China strategy is transforming China's economic development model towards high-quality economic growth. This study examines the impact of urban information and communication technology (ICT) development on green total factor energy efficiency (GTFEE). The findings show that ICT development has a positive influence on GTFEE, with its effects moderated by technological innovation and industrial structure. The study also reveals that the impact of ICT development on GTFEE varies based on resource mismatch levels and regional development disparities.

Energy efficiency assessment of RCEP member states: A three-stage slack based measurement DEA with undesirable outputs

Sheng Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper uses an improved Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model to evaluate the energy efficiency and influencing factors of the members of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and explores the dynamic changes of energy efficiency using the Malmquist index model. The empirical analysis shows that China, Japan, and Australia have the highest energy efficiency, while Vietnam has the lowest. The results of the study are helpful in understanding the trends in energy efficiency changes among countries and improving the comprehensive governance capacity of energy efficiency.

Reactions of energy intensity, energy efficiency, and activity indexes to income and energy price changes: The panel data evidence from OECD countries

Muhammed Sehid Gorus et al.

Summary: Energy plays a significant role in the economic growth process, and this study examines the factors influencing energy intensity, energy efficiency, and activity indexes for 27 OECD countries. The results show that income has a negative impact on both energy intensity and energy efficiency, while its effect on the activity index varies across countries. Additionally, the impact of energy prices on these indexes is mixed.

The impact of trade, financial development and government integrity on energy efficiency: An analysis from G7-Countries

Wasi Ul Hassan Shah et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between energy efficiency, trade, financial development, and government integrity in G7 economies. The study finds that trade is an effective channel to increase energy efficiency, while financial development enhances energy efficiency. However, research and development have a positive impact on trade but do not significantly improve energy efficiency, and governance plays a role in promoting trade but lacks focus on improving energy efficiency.

How to improve total factor energy efficiency? An empirical analysis of the Yangtze River economic belt of China

Liwei Tang et al.

Summary: The study found that in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, technological efficiency has almost zero contribution to the growth of total factor energy efficiency (TFEE), technological progress has a negative impact on TFEE, and scale efficiency changes are crucial for TFEE growth. The TFEE of the western region is narrowing the gap with the central and eastern regions, and research investment is a key factor that can significantly improve TFEE growth.

Can Internet development improve the energy efficiency of firms: Empirical evidence from China

Mengjie Li et al.

Summary: Based on macro and micro matched data, this study uses a fixed effects model, subsamples regression, and the instrumental variable method to analyze the impact of Internet development on energy efficiency, revealing the spillover effect of Internet development in China. The findings support the improvement of energy efficiency and energy-saving effects of Chinese firms through Internet development, as well as the promotion of intelligent and energy-saving development in the manufacturing industry.

Industrial agglomeration effect for energy efficiency in Japanese production plants

Kenta Tanaka et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the relationship between industrial agglomeration effect and energy efficiency in Japan's paper/pulp and cement industries using plant-level data. The results show that energy efficiency in both industries improved between 2000 and 2010, although the factors for improvement and the impact of industrial agglomeration differ. The study highlights the importance of considering regional circumstances when seeking to improve energy efficiency.

Does coal-to-gas policy reduce air pollution? Evidence from a quasi-natural experiment in China

Chenyang Yu et al.

Summary: The study shows that China's coal-to-gas policy has significant reduction effects on industrial sulfur dioxide, industrial smoke, fine particulate matter, and air quality index. The policy's impact is most significant in the second and third year after implementation. Additionally, the policy has led to an increase in the proportion of the tertiary industry and a decrease in industrialization, contributing to the reduction of air pollution.
