What drives urban carbon emission efficiency? - Spatial analysis based on nighttime light data

Guochang Fang et al.

Summary: This paper explores the factors that improve the efficiency of urban carbon emissions. The study finds that urban population expansion, economic growth, and R&D investment have positive effects on carbon emission efficiency (CEE), while industrial scale and agglomeration have adverse effects. Additionally, manufacturing agglomeration has a negative impact on local CEE but has a warning effect on neighboring regions. On the other hand, the agglomeration of the producer services industry significantly improves CEE and has a demonstration effect on adjacent regions.

Energy efficiency performance of the industrial sector: From the perspective of technological gap in different regions in China

Xiaoling Ouyang et al.

Summary: Traditional estimation methods tend to overestimate energy efficiency performance due to the exclusion of heterogeneous production technology. Using the metafrontier method combined with SFA, this study analyzes energy efficiency performance of industrial sectors in China's provinces and finds distinct differences among regions, with the eastern region maintaining higher energy efficiency and technological gap ratios. The average industrial energy efficiency score of China is only 0.4396, indicating a significant potential for improvement.
