Study on the Influence of Flat Heat Pipe Structural Parameters in Battery Thermal Management System

Yueqi Wang et al.

Summary: Battery performance and lifespan can be improved with a good Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS), specifically one that utilizes a flat heat pipe (FHP) which effectively removes heat and improves temperature uniformity. This study establishes a thermal model and investigates the influence of FHP structure on battery thermal dynamics. The study finds that the thickness of the sintered wick greatly affects temperature variation among cells and that changes in porosity and particle diameter affect wick thermal resistance and heat conductivity. The optimized FHP design reduces maximum battery temperature and temperature variation in the battery.

A novel heat dissipation structure based on flat heat pipe for battery thermal management system

Yueqi Wang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the thermal performance and heat dissipation of batteries in flying cars. Flat heat pipe technology is proposed to solve the battery thermal issues, and its effectiveness is verified through experiments. The results show that the battery's maximum temperature occurs at the end of the takeoff stage, while the maximum temperature difference appears during the forward flight segment. With suitable heat dissipation structures and control methods for different discharge conditions and environmental factors, the battery's thermal performance can be improved.

A review on hybrid thermal management of battery packs and it's cooling performance by enhanced PCM

G. Murali et al.

Summary: Power batteries in electric vehicles release a significant amount of heat during charging and discharging, necessitating the use of a Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) to regulate temperature rise and distribution for improved battery lifespan, efficiency, and safety. Among various BTMS options, Phase Change Material (PCM) stands out for its appealing features such as low parasitic power, low weight, and uniform temperature distribution. The study introduces a Hybrid Thermal Management System with PCM for enhanced cooling, and summarizes techniques to enhance thermal conductivity of PCM. Additionally, it reviews research on key parameters affecting system performance and proposes conclusions based on previous studies on PCM cooling.

Experimental study and numerical simulation of a Lithium-ion battery thermal management system using a heat pipe

Atieh Alihosseini et al.

Summary: The study investigates a lithium-ion battery heat management system using a heat pipe, and experimentally explores its performance. The experimental results show that while increasing ambient temperature leads to a rise in battery surface temperature, the decrease in thermal resistance of the heat pipe moderates this effect and controls the battery surface temperature with forced convection, distributing temperature uniformly. The use of the heat pipe helps maintain more stable temperature conditions with lower fluctuations in consecutive battery cycles.
