Review on Applications of X-ray Computed Tomography for Coal Characterization: Recent Progress and Perspectives

Dameng Liu et al.

Summary: This study introduces the principles and methods of using X-ray computed tomography (CT) to characterize the microscopic structure and macroscopic physical properties of coal. CT can be used for 3D microstructure reconstruction, pore and mineral quantification, and construction of equivalent pore network models for coal. Additionally, CT can evaluate the porosity, gas adsorption/diffusion rates, permeability, and mechanical behavior of coal. The study also discusses the application of CT in investigating the evolutionary mechanisms of microstructure and macroscopic properties during gas adsorption, temperature change, and damage deformation, as well as the challenges and prospects of CT.

Application of the Infrared Thermography and Unmanned Ground Vehicle for Rescue Action Support in Underground Mine-The AMICOS Project

Jaroslaw Szrek et al.

Summary: Rescue actions in underground mines are highly risky and may involve advanced technologies to deal with potential hazards such as earthquakes, gas leaks, and high temperatures. The testing of a UGV robotic system developed within the AMICOS project showed promising results in human detection efficiency, and future work will focus on testing the technology in deep copper ore mines.
