The CORDEX-CORE EXP-I Initiative Description and Highlight Results from the Initial Analysis

Filippo Giorgi et al.

Summary: This article describes the first effort of the Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX)-CORE EXP-I, which involves using regional climate models (RCMs) to downscale global climate model (GCM) simulations from the CMIP5 program. The results cover a wide range of topics, including extreme indices, storms, monsoons, and more. The CORDEX-CORE EXP-I ensemble provides unprecedented downscaled information to improve understanding of regional climate change and impacts.

The role of renewable energies in sustainable development of Ghana

Mark Amoah Nyasapoh et al.

Summary: Developing nations require energy solutions that address economic growth, environment, and social equity. Renewable energy (RE) sources are accepted for electricity generation due to their environmental friendliness. The electricity grid has been modified worldwide to accommodate large-scale deployment of RE sources. A qualitative assessment reveals that Ghana needs a mobilization of $22.6 billion in investments to implement their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for a green economy. Despite the potential and benefits of RE sources, only a small percentage has been developed into the electricity generation mix in Ghana. RE sources can contribute to electricity security and reduce CO2 emissions, making them a viable alternative for Ghana's future energy solutions in a low carbon economy. Policy mechanisms and a National Development Plan favoring the renewable energy industry are necessary in Ghana.

Current and future potential of solar and wind energy over Africa using the RegCM4 CORDEX-CORE ensemble

Windmanagda Sawadogo et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of climate change on solar and wind energy potential in Africa, finding a general decrease in solar potential while concentrated solar power output increases, and wind power density shows an increasing trend. The RCP2.6 emission scenario is more favorable for the implementation of renewable energy in Africa compared to RCP8.5.

Climate hazard indices projections based on CORDEX-CORE, CMIP5 and CMIP6 ensemble

Erika Coppola et al.

Summary: The CORDEX-CORE initiative aims to produce homogeneous regional climate model (RCM) projections worldwide and shows better performance compared to driving GCMs due to its higher spatial resolution. The initiative analyzed several hazard indicators and found significant increases in temperature, heat, wet and dry hazards for the far future time slice.

How an Integration of Home Energy Management and Battery System Affects the Economic Benefits of Residential PV System Owners in Thailand

Methee Srikranjanapert et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the financial feasibility of installing residential solar rooftop systems with different scenarios in Thailand, finding that installing a solar PV system with HEMS provides the highest customer economics. In the short term, promoting the integration of HEMS with PV systems is recommended, while the installation of PV systems with HEMS and battery should be promoted when battery cost decreases.
