Diagnosis of arrhythmias with few abnormal ECG samples using metric-based meta learning

Zhenxing Liu et al.

Summary: A major challenge in artificial intelligence based ECG diagnosis is the lack of sufficient annotated training samples for each rhythm type, especially for rare diseases, leading to limited performance of many approaches. In this paper, a Meta Siamese Network (MSN) based on metric learning is proposed to achieve high accuracy for automatic ECG arrhythmias diagnosis with limited ECG records. The proposed model preprocesses ECG signals and constructs a dataset with limited records to explore the performance variation with sample size. A metric-based meta-learning framework and siamese network are employed for arrhythmia diagnosis based on similarity metric. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in improving model robustness.
