The Emergence of the Racial Disparity in US Breast-Cancer Mortality

Summary: The racial disparity in breast-cancer mortality in the United States is due to the unequal benefit derived by Black women from interventions such as mammography screening and adjuvant endocrine therapy. Removing barriers to health care access could help mitigate the racial divide in breast-cancer mortality.

A Pancreatic Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic Eliminates Socioeconomic Disparities in Treatment and Improves Survival

Summary: National studies have shown disparities in treatment and survival of pancreatic cancer patients based on socioeconomic status. This study found that low-SES patients had poorer outcomes compared to high-SES patients outside of the MDC, but these differences were eliminated within the MDC setting. Low SES was associated with inferior survival for non-MDC patients, but not for MDC patients.

Socioeconomic and Surgical Disparities are Associated with Rapid Relapse in Patients with Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

Summary: Among TNBC patients in SEER, Medicaid or no insurance, single status, black race, and no surgery are associated with higher odds of rrTNBC. These results suggest that an interplay between socioeconomic factors, clinical, and genomic variables may disproportionately contribute to worse outcomes in a subset of TNBC patients.
