Environmental risks to freshwater organisms from the mycotoxins deoxynivalenol and zearalenone using Species Sensitivity Distributions

Emily J. Eagles et al.

Summary: This study investigated the acute toxicity of two common mycotoxins, deoxynivalenol (DON) and zearalenone (ZON), on a variety of freshwater organisms. The results showed that crustaceans were the most sensitive to DON, while cnidarians and molluscs were more sensitive to ZON. Combining these novel invertebrate toxicity results provides valuable information for the analysis of Species Sensitivity Distributions.

Neurotoxicity of zearalenone's metabolites and beauvericin mycotoxins via apoptosis and cell cycle disruption

Fojan Agahi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of different concentrations of alpha-zearalenol, beta-zearalenol, and beauvericin on cell cycle progression and cell death pathways in neuronal cells. The highest concentration of beta-zearalenol caused alterations in cell cycle progression and an increase in early apoptotic cells. Combination treatments involving beta-zearalenol also showed significant changes in cell death pathways.
