Simulation of land-cover change in Jing-Jin-Ji region under different scenarios of SSP-RCP

Fan Zemeng

Summary: This study develops a surface-modeling method of land cover scenario (SSMLC) to simulate land-cover change driven by climate change and human activity. The results show that the intensity of land cover change is highest between 2020 and 2040 and gradually decreases thereafter. The SSMLC method can accurately project the change trend and intensity of land cover, helping optimize land cover planning and inform eco-environmental conservation measures.

Does scale matter? Analysis and measurement of ecosystem service supply and demand status based on ecological unit

Rui Sun et al.

Summary: This study constructed a framework to analyze the supply and demand status of regional ecosystem services, and quantitatively measured the equilibrium coupling status of ecological units in Jiangsu Province. The results showed apparent spatial heterogeneity in the supply and demand of ecosystem services, but an overall trend towards coordinated development. These findings lay a foundation for ecosystem management and policy formulation in promoting regional sustainable development.

Urbanization and climate change impacts on future flood risk in the Pearl River Delta under shared socioeconomic pathways

Xiaoli Chen et al.

Summary: This study conducted a comprehensive assessment of future flood risk in the Pearl River Delta, showing that climate change and urbanization are expected to exacerbate flood risk in most parts of the region over the next few decades. The results suggest that reducing greenhouse gas emissions may effectively mitigate the flood risk, and flood risk management and preventative actions should be included in regional adaptation strategies.

China's city-level carbon emissions during 1992-2017 based on the inter-calibration of nighttime light data

Jiandong Chen et al.

Summary: This study estimates the CO2 emissions of 334 prefecture-level cities in China from 1992 to 2017 using satellite data, revealing that the eastern and coastal regions had higher carbon emissions, but their carbon intensity decreased more rapidly. The research provides the most extensive and long-term CO2 dataset to date, which will be valuable for future CO2 research and emission reduction strategies in China.

Regional scale mapping of ecosystem services supply, demand, flow and mismatches in Southern Myanmar

Melanie Feurer et al.

Summary: The study revealed that while there is a high supply of multiple ecosystem services at regional level in Myanmar's Tanintharyi Region, the demand for ecosystem services in urban and rapidly developing agricultural areas is not fully covered. Furthermore, a clear connection between land tenure and ecosystem service outcomes for rural communities was identified.

How to optimize ecological compensation to alleviate environmental injustice in different cities in the Yellow River Basin? A case of integrating ecosystem service supply, demand and flow

Tianlin Zhai et al.

Summary: Ecosystem services have external effects, leading to environmental injustice due to the variation in delivery amongst different regions. Implementation of ecological compensation can address this issue. The study used the InVEST model to assess carbon sequestration in the Yellow River Basin and proposed a comparative ecological radiation force to quantify ecosystem service flow. The results showed a spatial mismatch in supply and demand, with some regions having a surplus of carbon sequestration.

Scenario modeling of ecological security index using system dynamics in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration

Hongjie Wang et al.

Summary: This study assesses the historical situation and future trends of ecological security in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration through building an ecological security index and system dynamics model. The results indicate that while overall security level is relatively high, there are significant disparities among cities, with low guarantee degree of eco-water use and fragile ecosystems being the primary risks.

Coupling trade-offs and supply-demand of ecosystem services (ES): A new opportunity for ES management

Qiang Feng et al.

Summary: The study proposes a new analytic framework that couples the trade-offs and supply-demand relations of ecosystem services (ES), aiming to minimize supply-demand risk areas and identify an optimal land use plan to simultaneously alleviate ES conflicts and supply-demand contradictions through scenario iterations. This offers new opportunities for improving sustainable ecosystem management.

Summary: Land cover (LC) plays a crucial role in energy exchange and environmental impact. Rapid changes in land cover in China necessitate fine-scale monitoring. A new dataset, CLCD, based on Landsat data on the Google Earth Engine platform provides valuable insights into China's land cover dynamics from 1990 to 2019.
