Estimation of soil depth in the Liukuei Experimental Forest by using conceptual model

Shao-Wei Wu et al.

Summary: The study established a potential soil depth estimating model based on the concept of risk assessment, combining environmental indicators influencing soil formation and plant height. The information from Canopy Height Model (CHM) was found to increase the model interpretation rate. The study used the depth index value (SDI) to estimate soil depth and analyzed the correlation between soil depth and slope gradient.

Key indicators describing the evolution of landslides in the Zhuoshui River Basin caused by the Chi-Chi earthquake in Taiwan

Chao-Yuan Lin et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the spatio-temporal distribution of landslide evolution caused by the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake. It found that the strong earthquake and subsequent rainfall had a long-lasting impact on the basin collapse rate. The study also observed the transformation of landslide location types from scattered off-bank landslides to concentrated near-bank collapses.

Environmental indicators combined with conceptual models to assess the spatial distribution of carbon storages in the Liukui Experimental Forest in southern Taiwan

Chao-Yuan Lin et al.

Summary: This study proposes an innovative method that combines satellite images and digital terrain models to estimate the spatial distribution of carbon storage in the Liukui Experimental Forest. By using environmental indicators such as the normalized vegetation index, topographic wetness index, and canopy height model, the method shows promising results in reflecting the spatial distribution of carbon storage compared to the IPCC Tier-2 approach.
