Controls on spatiotemporal variations of stable isotopes in precipitation across Bangladesh

Mohammad Rubaiat Islam et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of the Indian summer monsoon (ISM) on infra-seasonal variations of stable isotopes in precipitation in Bangladesh by analyzing data from three stations. Findings showed distinct variations of precipitation stable isotopes from west to east Bangladesh, which were influenced by convections over the Bay of Bengal and tropical Indian Ocean.

Detecting and quantifying palaeoseasonality in stalagmites using geochemical and modelling approaches

James U. L. Baldini et al.

Summary: Stalagmites are a valuable resource for reconstructing climatological palaeoseasonality, preserving different types of seasonality and environmental conditions. Replication of records is useful but should be done with stalagmites affected by the same processes in the same proportion. The study introduces a new drip classification scheme, common microanalytical techniques, and a new modelling technique for extracting meteoric precipitation and temperature palaeoseasonality from stalagmite data.

Orbital-scale Asian summer monsoon variations: Paradox and exploration

Hai Cheng et al.

Summary: The Asian summer monsoon is crucial for the livelihoods of billions of people in Asia, but there are still unresolved issues regarding its variability on orbital scales. Recent model simulations suggest that the discrepancies between loess, marine, and cave proxy records can be largely explained by regional divergences in the ASM domain. The study provides new insights into understanding different hydroclimatic proxies and reconciles long-standing problems related to the ASM.

Interannual oxygen isotope variability in Indian summer monsoon precipitation reflects changes in moisture sources

Gayatri Kathayat et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the spatio-temporal variability of oxygen isotope compositions in precipitation over the Indian summer monsoon domain is inadequately constrained by the limited observational record, leading to unclear climatic significance of isotopic signatures. It also suggests that during weak monsoon years, the moisture contribution primarily comes from the Arabian Sea, while during strong monsoon years, the influence from remote oceanic and terrestrial sources is greater.
