Sub-Threshold Fabrication of Laser-Induced Periodic Surface Structures on Diamond-like Nanocomposite Films with IR Femtosecond Pulses

Sergei M. Pimenov et al.

Summary: In this paper, we studied the formation of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) on nanocomposite films at low fluences during nanoscale ablation processing. The study focused on microscopic analysis of the nanostructured film surface at different stages of LIPSS formation and numerical modeling of surface plasmon polaritons. Important findings include sub-threshold fabrication of high and low spatial frequency LIPSS, transition of LIPSS from high to low spatial frequency within a narrow fluence range, visualization of equi-field lines in the valleys and ridges of a growing surface grating, and influence of a laser-excited layer on the period of surface plasmon polaritons.

Effect of tungsten doping on laser ablation and graphitization of diamond-like nanocomposite films

M. S. Komlenok et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of tungsten doping on DLN films under different laser irradiation, finding that the ablation threshold and rate are influenced by laser wavelength and pulse width. Ablation threshold is insensitive to tungsten doping under UV laser, while it decreases and ablation rate increases under IR laser.

Tribological Performance of Diamond-like Nanocomposite Coatings: Influence of Environments and Laser Surface Texturing

Summary: Diamond-like nanocomposite (DLN) films exhibit low-friction and low-wear performance in water and humid air, without chemical interaction. Friction performance is improved after laser surface texturing under oil lubrication.
