Hypoglycemia in Pregnancies Following Gastric Bypass-a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Louise L. Stentebjerg et al.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to investigate the prevalence of hypoglycemia in pregnant women who underwent gastric bypass surgery and identify the risk factors associated with hypoglycemic events during pregnancy. The analysis of six included studies with a total of 330 participants revealed that 57.6% of women who had undergone gastric bypass surgery experienced hypoglycemia during pregnancy, as determined by oral glucose tolerance test and continuous glucose monitoring. However, no studies conducted mixed meal tests or reported on risk factors for hypoglycemia. Further research utilizing continuous glucose monitoring and mixed meal tests is needed to determine the extent of hypoglycemia in these women's everyday lives.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring Metrics and Birth Weight: Informing Management of Type 1 Diabetes Throughout Pregnancy

Eleanor M. Scott et al.

Summary: This study analyzed data from 386 pregnant women with type 1 diabetes to determine the relationship between gestational weekly changes in CGM metrics and 24-h glucose profiles and infant birth weight. The results showed that normal birth weight is associated with lower mean CGM glucose concentration and higher time in range from early pregnancy, highlighting the importance of optimizing maternal glycemia early on.

Symptomatic Hypoglycemia After Gastric Bypass: Incidence and Predictive Factors in a Cohort of 1,138 Consecutive Patients

Rebecca Bienvenot et al.

Summary: After Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the incidence of severe postprandial hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia with neuroglycopenic symptoms was higher than expected. Younger age, lower BMI after RYGB, maximal weight loss, and higher preoperative BMI were identified as independent predictive factors for higher risk of severe hypoglycemia.

Glucose Abnormalities and Inappropriate Weight Gain Predict Negative Pregnancy Outcomes After Gastric Bypass Surgery

H. Gohier et al.

Summary: A monocentric retrospective study analyzed 122 pregnancies after RYGB, finding that 73% of women had IG abnormalities, with risks of LGA, SGA, and preterm birth. Results showed LGA was associated with high glycemic time percentage and excessive maternal weight gain, while preterm birth was related to high glycemic time percentage and insufficient maternal weight gain.
