Synthesis of polymerizable quaternary thiazole salts and their application as antibacterial agents for dental resin

Wen Fu et al.

Summary: In order to enhance the antibacterial activity of dental resin without affecting its physicochemical properties, polymerizable quaternarized thiazole salts (QAMEMT-x) with different alkyl chain lengths were synthesized and added to the resin. The study showed that the addition of QAMEMT-x did not significantly affect the resin's properties, but reduced its volumetric shrinkage and exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans.
