Risk and predictive factors for severe dengue infection: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Kangzhuang Yuan et al.

Summary: This study aims to identify risk factors for the prognosis of severe dengue (SD) and potential predictive factors for SD in the early stage of dengue fever (DF) infection. Through a meta-analysis of relevant studies, practical factors and biomarkers were established to assist in the prompt diagnosis and treatment of SD.

Prognostic Indicators for the Early Prediction of Severe Dengue Infection: A Retrospective Study in a University Hospital in Thailand

Mayuna Srisuphanunt et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop simple diagnostic guidelines for the early detection of severe dengue infections. By reviewing retrospective data of patients with dengue infection, several diagnostic parameters were identified and combined into a simple score sheet for evaluating the severity of the disease.

Current Understanding of the Pathogenesis of Dengue Virus Infection

Puneet Bhatt et al.

Summary: The pathogenesis of dengue virus infection involves a complex interplay between virus, host genes, and host immune response, with major determinants including host factors and viral determinants. Host factors include antibody-dependent enhancement, memory cross-reactive T cells, while viral determinants include NS1 protein, genomic variation, among others.

Risk predictors of progression to severe disease during the febrile phase of dengue: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Sorawat Sangkaew et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors associated with progression to severe dengue disease detectable specifically in the febrile phase. Female patients, pre-existing comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, renal disease, cardiovascular disease, as well as clinical features like vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding, and fluid accumulation were all significantly associated with progression to severe disease. Monitoring warning signs recommended by WHO guidelines and testing for infecting serotype during the febrile phase could improve early prediction of severe dengue.
