Photocontrollable Magnetism and Photoluminescence in a Binuclear Dysprosium Anthracene Complex

Xin-Da Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, two new compounds with unique structures and properties were synthesized by incorporating photoreactive anthracene moieties into binuclear metal motifs. One of the compounds undergoes a reversible structural transformation under light and heat treatment, accompanied by changes in magnetic dynamics and photoluminescent properties. This is the first binuclear metal complex that exhibits photocontrollable magnetic dynamics and photoluminescence.

Significantly Enhancing the Single-Molecule-Magnet Performance of a Dinuclear Dy(III) Complex by Utilizing an Asymmetric Auxiliary Organic Ligand

Hui-Sheng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, an asymmetric organic ligand was employed to regulate the magnetic relaxation behavior of Dy-2 single-molecule magnets. A structurally unique Dy-2 complex was successfully synthesized, exhibiting different bond lengths compared to other similar complexes. This led to the fine-tuning of the magnetic relaxation behavior and improved intramolecular exchange coupling.

Evolution from a single relaxation process to two-step relaxation processes of Dy2 single-molecule magnets via the modulations of the terminal solvent ligands

Dawei Li et al.

Summary: By elaborately designing different terminal solvent ligands, three Dy-2 complexes were successfully synthesized with single-molecule magnet behaviors. The observed differences in the magnetic behavior of the complexes were rationalized by performing CASSCF calculations. The complexes with higher local symmetries of central metals acted as SMMs with higher energy barriers, while a smaller theta angle and different symmetries of the Dy-III ions resulted in a complex with a two-step relaxation process.
