trans-9,10-Dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboxylic Acid: Complete Host Selectivity for Guest Compound para- Dichlorobenzene during Crystal Growth from Mixed Isomeric Dichlorobenzenes

Benita Barton et al.

Summary: This study reports the results of growing trans-9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboxylic acid (DED) crystals from mixtures containing equimolar isomeric o-, m-, and p-dichlorobenzenes (o-DCB, m-DCB, and p-DCB). The research found that DED displayed a remarkable affinity for p-DCB and selectively incorporated p-DCB into the crystals, even when other isomers were present in the mixture.

Selectivity considerations of host compound trans-9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboxylic acid when presented with pyridine and picoline mixtures: charge-assisted versus classical hydrogen bonding

Benita Barton et al.

Summary: In this study, the host behavior of a compound H1 in different pyridine compounds was assessed, and it was found that H1 exhibited high selectivity for 2MP and 3MP. The analysis of the solid samples revealed that the complexes formed between H1 and 2MP or 3MP were actually salts, and the host preference for 2MP and 3MP was not only due to guest enclathration but also strong charge-assisted hydrogen bonding. Additionally, the thermal stabilities of the complexes were consistent with the preferences of the guests.

Behaviour of host compounds 1,2-DAX and 1,2-DAT in the presence of mixed xylene and ethylbenzene guest solvents, and comparisons with their 1,4 host derivatives

Benita Barton et al.

Summary: Both 1,2-DAX and 1,2-DAT were found to form complexes with various guest solvents, favoring o-Xy and discriminating against p-Xy. This preference contrasted with the earlier findings for related host compounds 1,4-DAX and 1,4-DAT, which preferred p-Xy while displaying a bias against o-Xy. The preferred guest species were found to occupy smaller void volumes compared to less favored guests.
