trans-9,10-Dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboxylic Acid: Remarkable Host Selectivities in the Presence of Mixtures of Anisole and Bromoanisole Isomers

Benita Barton et al.

Summary: In this study, the compound DED was found to have a strong affinity for 4-BA when recrystallized from mixtures containing this guest species. This host selectivity was observed even at low concentrations of 4-BA. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses showed that 4-BA had short intermolecular contacts with the host molecule, while ANI and 2-BA were accommodated in open channels. Thermal analyses confirmed the stability of DED with 4-BA and its ability to separate 4-BA-containing mixtures.

trans-9,10-Dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboxylic Acid: Complete Host Selectivity for Guest Compound para- Dichlorobenzene during Crystal Growth from Mixed Isomeric Dichlorobenzenes

Benita Barton et al.

Summary: This study reports the results of growing trans-9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboxylic acid (DED) crystals from mixtures containing equimolar isomeric o-, m-, and p-dichlorobenzenes (o-DCB, m-DCB, and p-DCB). The research found that DED displayed a remarkable affinity for p-DCB and selectively incorporated p-DCB into the crystals, even when other isomers were present in the mixture.

Selectivity Considerations of the Roof-Shaped Host Compound trans-α,α,α′,α′-Tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)-9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dimethanol in Mixed Anisoles

Benita Barton et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the selectivity behavior of a roof-shaped host compound, H1, in different anisole mixtures. The results showed that H1 exhibited remarkable selectivities for ANI or mMANI when oMANI or pMANI was also present. Additionally, high selectivities were noted for ANI and mMANI in ternary experiments with ANI/oMANI/pMANI and oMANI/mMANI/pMANI solutions.

Solid-state NMR studies of host-guest chemistry in metal-organic frameworks

Yuqing Xiao et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of recent advances in the study of host-guest chemistry in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) using solid-state NMR techniques. It highlights the importance of understanding the detailed interactions between MOFs and guest molecules in various fields such as gas adsorption, chemical separation, drug delivery, chemical sensing, and heterogeneous catalysis. Solid-state NMR enables the elucidation of adsorption properties, dynamic behaviors, and atomic-scale interactions between MOFs and guest molecules.

Benita Barton et al.

Summary: This study compared the selectivity behavior of two host compounds, H3 and H6, towards different guest solvents, showing that H6 exhibited higher selectivity towards m-xylene compared to H3. Single crystal diffraction experiments revealed the interaction mechanisms between the hosts and guests, providing insights into their preferences for specific solvents. Thermal analyses explained the selectivity of one host compound, H3, but were less informative for the complexes of H6.

Supramolecular green chemistry; An eco-friendly spectrophotometric approach for determination of non-chromophoric methacholine via host-guest interactions with 4-sulfocalix[4]arene

Norhan Badr ElDin et al.

Summary: Supramolecular chemistry has been utilized to develop a method for the quantification of Methacholine chloride (MCh) by exploiting the high spectral absorptivity and exceptional complexation towards choline-mimetic guests of 4-sulfocalix [4]arene (SCX4). The proposed method involves investigating the host-guest interaction between MCh and SCX4 using different UV-spectrophotometric methods, such as dual wavelength method (DWM), ratio difference method (RDM) and ratio derivative method (1DD), to quantify MCh.

Xylene isomer separations by intrinsically porous molecular materials

Gengwu Zhang et al.

Summary: Xylene mixtures and the three individual isomers are valuable chemical feedstocks in the chemical industry, but their separation is challenging. Traditional separation technologies are not suitable for sustainable development, while adsorption by porous materials is proposed as an alternative strategy. Intrinsically porous molecular materials have been used for energy-intensive separations due to their high efficiency and low energy consumption.
