Surfactant-induced hierarchically porous MOF-based catalysts prepared under sustainable conditions and their ability to remove bisphenol A from aqueous solutions

M. Asuncion Molina et al.

Summary: Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are widely used in various applications, including heterogeneous catalysis. However, the limited diffusion of reactants and products is a common issue. This study improves the performance of nanocrystalline MOFs by introducing surfactant-induced mesoporosity, enabling the efficient removal of bisphenol A from aqueous solution.

Hierarchically Porous MOFs Synthesized by Soft-Template Strategies

Ke Li et al.

Summary: The past few decades have seen a rapid development in the research of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Although most initially reported MOFs were limited to microporous structures, their intrinsic pore size has been enlarged by extending the building units or organic ligands. However, the synthesis of larger ligands is challenging and most MOFs are not stable enough. The soft-template strategy offers a promising approach to produce hierarchically porous MOFs (HPMOFs), but early attempts failed due to incompatibility. Therefore, developing a rational soft-template strategy for precise control of HPMOFs' morphology and porosity is of great significance.

Novel core-shell Fe-UiO-66/silicalite-1 catalysts for efficient degradation of phenolic wastewater

Songshan Jiang et al.

Summary: Fe supported core-shell catalysts were designed and prepared for efficient catalytic wet peroxide oxidation of phenolic wastewater. The catalysts exhibited good catalytic activity with complete phenol degradation and high TOC conversions, and no poisonous by-products were detected in the treated wastewater, showcasing the green characteristic of the catalysts. The supported core-shell structure enhanced the stability of the MOFs Fenton catalysts, as indicated by the low Fe leaching concentrations in the treated solutions.
