Synthesis, nonlinear optical properties, photophysical, and theoretical studies of azo dye bearing coumarin-thiophene

Mohamed Yahya et al.

Summary: Three azo dyes bearing coumarin thiophene were synthesized and their photophysical properties were studied in various solvents using UV-vis spectroscopy. Acidochromic properties were observed in DMSO/H2O for all products. Reversibility studies were conducted to assess the reusability of the synthesized compounds, which were also investigated for their potential use as hydroxide sensors. Electric field-induced second harmonic generation (EFISH) technique was employed to measure their second-order nonlinear optical properties. Thermal stability was confirmed up to approximately 200 degrees C via thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Protonation and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were investigated using Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations.

Synthesis of novel acylthioureas bearing naphthoquinone moiety as dual sensor for high-performance naked-eye colorimetric and fluorescence detection of CN- and F- ions and its application in water and food samples

Yahya Nural et al.

Summary: In this study, six new acylthiourea sensors containing a naphthoquinone moiety were successfully synthesized and characterized. The synthesized sensors showed absorbance shifts and colorimetric changes in the presence of different anions, with sensor 4e exhibiting unique sensitivity to CN- and F- compared to other competing anions in DMSO. Further spectroscopic studies revealed that the interaction mechanism between 4e and CN- involves nucleophilic addition, while the interaction with F- involves ring-closing due to deprotonation. The sensors also demonstrated selectivity towards CN- in aqueous solutions and Hg2+ selectivity in DMSO.
