Taxonomic updates in Amphitecna (Bignoniaceae): A new Mexican species and the re-establishment of the giant-leaved A. megalophylla

Hector Gomez-Dominguez et al.

Summary: In this study, the morphological affinities of 24 species of Amphitecna were analyzed, resulting in the identification of six distinct morphological groups. A new species from Mexico, Amphitecna fonceti, was described based on its unique floral and fruit characteristics. The study also proposed the re-establishment of the giant-leaved species A. megalophylla while discussing the characteristics and geographical distribution of each morphological group.

Cretaceous Lauraceae wood from El Rosario, Baja California, Mexico

Sergio R. S. Cevallos-Ferriz et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new wood type from the Baja California Cretaceous, adding to the understanding of plant diversity in the region. The characteristics of the wood align with those of the Lauraceae family, but also show distinctions that suggest the presence of a new taxon, Rosarioxylon bajacaliforniensis Cevallos-Ferriz, Catharina & Kneller. This new taxon highlights anatomical differences and geographic isolation from similar taxa, suggesting a wide distribution of Lauraceae in conifer dominated communities.
