Nonlinear functional relation covering near- and far-marginal stability in ion temperature gradient driven turbulence

T. Nakayama et al.

Summary: A novel nonlinear functional relation is proposed to accurately reproduce gyrokinetic simulations of toroidal ion temperature gradient (ITG) driven turbulence. By applying mathematical optimization techniques, the regression parameters are determined for both near- and far-marginal regime of ITG stability, achieving a regression error of approximately 5%. The intensity ratio of zonal flow and turbulence potential intensity is found to be a crucial factor for reproduction accuracy.

Geometry dependence of the fluctuation intensity in gyrokinetic turbulence

G. M. Staebler et al.

Summary: The investigation focuses on the properties of 3D saturated fluctuation intensity of electric potential in gyrokinetic turbulence simulations, using linear eigenmodes and geometry shape functions to construct a model for accurate calculation of electron and ion energy flux poloidal wavenumber spectrum. New insights are gained into the way zonal flow mixing saturates ion-scale turbulence by controlling the radial wavenumber width of the turbulence spectrum.

A. Loarte et al.

Summary: The study assessed the optimal conditions for access to and sustainment of H-mode plasmas in the PFPO-1 phase of the ITER research plan. It compared predictions with experiments carried out at JET and ASDEX Upgrade, finding reasonable agreement for global H-mode properties and scale lengths of density and temperature profiles. Specific integration issues of the PFPO-1 H-mode plasma scenarios were discussed, taking into account the impact of ITER tokamak design specifics.

Quasilinear turbulent particle and heat transport modelling with a neural-network-based approach founded on gyrokinetic calculations and experimental data

E. Narita et al.

Summary: The novel quasilinear turbulent transport model DeKANIS is based on the gyrokinetic analysis of JT-60U plasmas, predicting particle and heat fluxes fast with a neural network (NN) approach and distinguishing diffusive and non-diffusive transport processes. Originally focusing only on particle transport, the model has been extended to cover multi-channel turbulent transport. With the new saturation model, DeKANIS can now be applied independently of the device.
