Damage degradation model of aeolian sand concrete under freeze-thaw cycles based on macro-microscopic perspective

Jianwen Bai et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the properties and durability of aeolian sand concrete (ASC) under freeze-thaw cycling conditions. Through the analysis and evaluation of the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of ASC, a freeze-thaw damage model was established and its applicability and reliability were verified. The introduction of aeolian sand was found to enhance the frost resistance durability of concrete, while changes in the pore structure affected the performance and durability of ASC.

Investigation of steel fiber reinforced high-performance concrete with full aeolian sand: Mix design, characteristics and microstructure

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: Steel fibers are employed to reinforce FA-HPC, resulting in a new type of cement-based composite. The optimization of water binder ratio, superplasticizer and steel fiber content improves the performance and durability of the material. The length of steel fibers has an impact on the comprehensive performance of FA-HPFRC, with 12 mm steel fibers performing better.

Influence of micromechanical property on the rate-dependent flexural strength of ultra-high performance concrete containing coarse aggregates (UHPC-CA)

Shaohua Li et al.

Summary: The flexural strength of ultra-high performance concrete with basalt aggregates depends on micromechanical property, interfacial transition zone (ITZ) and matrix. Controlling hydration development to produce different initial micromechanical property distributions influences the rate-dependent flexural strength of UHPC-CA. Higher fracture toughness ratios of ITZ/CA and ITZ/Matrix result in lower critical angles of fractures, leading to higher mechanical contribution from CA and matrix.

Mechanical performance and optimization of high-volume fly ash concrete containing plastic wastes and graphene nanoplatelets using response surface methodology

Musa Adamu et al.

Summary: The study found that plastic waste and graphene nanoplatelets have a significant impact on the properties of high-volume fly ash concrete, with plastic waste and fly ash reducing the strength and water absorption of the concrete, while graphene nanoplatelets enhance them.

Performance of sustainable sand concrete at ambient and elevated temperature

Mohammad Nadeem Akhtar et al.

Summary: Environmental issues caused by sand over dredging have led to global restrictions on its production, impacting the economy of concrete construction significantly. This study introduces an environmentally friendly alternative to sand and experiments with four types of concrete. Experimental results show that concrete samples 40NDSC and 100RCSC perform significantly better than other types.

Cross-scale Study on the Mechanical Properties and Frost Resistance Durability of Aeolian Sand Concrete

Jianwen Bai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using aeolian sand as a replacement for natural river sand in concrete preparation. Results showed that an optimal content of 30% aeolian sand can improve both workability and mechanical properties of concrete. The study also found that the compressive strength of the concrete is negatively correlated with total porosity and porosity of more harmful pores, while having little correlation with porosity of less harmful pores. Additionally, the microstructural factor that most significantly impacts the macroscopic frost resistance durability in aeolian sand concrete is the relative proportion of more harmful and harmless pores.
