Effect of additives on the thermal stability of SBS modified binders during storage at elevated temperatures

Sumit K. Singh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of various additives on the thermal stability of SBS modified binders during high-temperature storage. The results indicate that iscowax and polyphosphoric acid can effectively reduce property deterioration in SBS-MBs, while thermal stabilizers are not effective. Additionally, SBS polymer with high vinyl content demonstrates excellent thermal stability at elevated temperatures.

Investigating the relationship between chemical composition and mechanical properties of asphalt binders using atomic force microscopy (AFM)

Enhao Zhang et al.

Summary: The composition-structure-mechanics relationship of asphalt binders is studied using atomic force microscopy. It is found that the micro-mechanical properties of asphalt binders are influenced by two fractions rather than a single fraction.

Comparative evaluation of ageing effects on the properties of regular and highly polymer modified asphalt binders

Carlos Rivera et al.

Summary: The use of polymer modified asphalt is increasing steadily due to the growing demands in asphalt pavements for higher loading. Higher dosages of polymer modification, known as highly or heavily modified asphalts (HiMA or HP), are now being used to enhance performance and durability of asphalt mixtures. Results show that HiMA asphalt exhibits better long-term mechanical performance in road projects compared to conventional polymer modified binders.

The role of rejuvenators in embedded damage healing for asphalt pavement

S. Xu et al.

Summary: The rejuvenator encapsulation technique has the potential to repair extrinsic damage in asphalt pavements, with the quality of the rejuvenator playing a key role in the effectiveness of the repair process. The properties of the capsules are also influenced by the encapsulated rejuvenator, which can affect the overall healing performance in asphalt pavements.
