Review on the deterioration and approaches to enhance the durability of concrete in the freeze-thaw environment

Ruijun Wang et al.

Summary: This overview explains the freeze-thaw durability mechanisms of concrete and proposes measures for enhancement. Concrete additives can effectively improve freeze-thaw durability by improving pore systems, reducing water absorption, and controlling crack resistance. Furthermore, the concept of designing a durable concrete cover system is introduced.

Properties of dredged sludge solidified with alkali-activated slag-based materials and blended with copper slag as fine aggregates of mortars

Zhenzhong Chen et al.

Summary: This study aims to solidify dredged sludge using industrial by-products to develop a high-strength construction material. The reuse of copper slag to replace natural sand further enhances the performance of the material. Adjusting the replacement ratio of copper slag can improve workability and strength.

Analysis of Acoustic Emission Signals Recorded during Freeze-Thaw Cycling of Concrete

Libor Topolar et al.

Summary: This study conducted a complex analysis of acoustic emission signals recorded during freeze-thaw cycles in air-entrained concrete specimens, aiming to assess concrete resistance to freezing and thawing. The results showed that the acoustic emission method was more sensitive to changes in the internal structure of concrete, such as minor cracks, compared to commonly used construction testing methods. Analysis of the signals using fast Fourier transform revealed a significant shift of dominant frequency towards lower values during freeze-thaw cycling in concrete.

Eco-friendly mix for Roller-Compacted Concrete: Effects of Persian-Gulf-Dredged marine sand on durability and resistance parameters of concrete

Saeed Moradi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of using marine sediment to replace quarry sands on roller-compacted concrete pavement properties, finding that the best compressive strength and special electrical resistance were observed with 15% DMS replacement in PC5. Additionally, the highest sulphate resistance was observed with 25% DMS and 15% GGBS content in SPPC after one year of curing.
