Lightweight foam concrete containing expanded perlite and glass sand: Physico-mechanical, durability, and insulation properties

Osman Gencel et al.

Summary: This study investigates the physico-mechanical, durability, and insulation properties of foam concrete using waste glass sand as an aggregate. The results show that the addition of glass sand improves the physical and mechanical properties of foam concrete. The addition of expanded perlite increases the insulation properties. Therefore, the study suggests that sustainable insulating foam concrete can be produced using waste glass sand.

Investigation of physico-mechanical, thermal properties and solar thermoregulation performance of shape-stable attapulgite based composite phase change material in foam concrete

Osman Gencel et al.

Summary: Thermal energy storage using phase change materials is an effective method for decreasing heating and cooling loads. This research developed novel foam concretes containing shape-stable attapulgite based composite PCM as TES material. The inclusion of ATP/C-M decreased the thermal conductivity and improved the insulation properties of the foam concretes. The results showed that these foam concretes have good potential for temperature control and energy saving in buildings.

Sulfate resistance of alkali-activated slag/Portland cement mortar produced with lightweight pumice aggregate

Murat Dener et al.

Summary: The study investigated the sulfate resistance of alkali-activated slag/Portland cement mortar produced with lightweight pumice aggregate. Different levels of Portland cement substitution and exposure to sulfate solutions showed varied effects on compressive strength and microstructural deteriorations caused by sulfate attack. Samples immersed in MgSO4 solution displayed excessive physical deterioration, while those in Na2SO4 solution showed better resistance.

Lightweight concretes based on wheat husk and hemp hurd as bio-aggregates and modified magnesium oxysulfate binder: Microstructure and technological performances

Virginia Barbieri et al.

Summary: This research explores the use of modified magnesium oxysulfate cement to manufacture lightweight concretes using wheat husk and hemp hurd as bio-aggregate. Through detailed microstructural studies, the mechanical and thermal properties of different concretes were revealed. The study suggests that the developed lightweight concretes are technologically competitive and have the advantage of high early strength.

High temperature resistance of self compacting alkali activated slag/portland cement composite using lightweight aggregate

Murat Dener et al.

Summary: This study fabricated a self compacting alkali activated slag/Portland cement composite design using lightweight aggregate for high temperatures. Six composite mixtures were determined for high temperature experiment, and compressive strength began to decrease with increasing temperature, reaching a minimum at 800 degrees C. Microcracks became more evident at 600 degrees C and 800 degrees C for different mixtures.
