A case study of excessive vibrations inside buildings due to an underground railway: Experimental tests and theoretical analysis

Ming Xuan-hui et al.

Summary: This study investigates excessive vibrations inside buildings caused by the Shenzhen Metro Line 2 using analyses of the tunnel, track irregularities, stiffening systems, and vibrations at different speeds. The results show that rail corrugation is the primary reason for excessive vibration, and increasing the stiffness of the vertical fastening system is the secondary reason. Solutions involve eliminating rail corrugation through rail grinding and decreasing vertical stiffness by changing the fastening system.

Investigation of saturation effects on vibrations of nearly saturated ground due to moving train loads using 2.5D FEM

Guangyun Gao et al.

Summary: An improved 2.5D FEM model is developed to predict ground-borne vibrations caused by passing high-speed trains in coastal areas. The model considers the ground as a nearly saturated layered half-space and describes the fluid using the equivalent fluid approach. The proposed model's reliability is verified through comparisons with field measurements and published analytical solutions. The study analyzes ground vibrations and excess pore water pressure under different train speeds and soil conditions. The results show that saturation has a significant influence on vibration displacements and excess pore pressure, and using a fully saturated model instead of a nearly saturated model would underestimate the vibration level on coastal ground.

Experimental, numerical and analytical studies on the attenuation of maglev train-induced vibrations with depth in layered soils

Kuanyuan Yu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the attenuation characteristics of environmental vibrations induced by high-speed maglev trains, focusing on the attenuation with depth. Field tests and numerical simulation are conducted to measure and analyze the train-induced ground vibrations. The study reveals that the amplification of vibrations at certain depths is attributed to the resonance of Rayleigh wave in layered soils, as confirmed by both field measurements and numerical simulations.

Analytical solution for evaluating deformation response of existing metro tunnel due to excavation of adjacent foundation pit

Ju-tao Qiu et al.

Summary: A new simplified analytical method is proposed to predict the longitudinal deformation of existing metro tunnel due to excavation unloading of adjacent foundation pit. The method is validated and parametric analysis is conducted to investigate the responses of the metro tunnel by considering various factors.
