Pesticide usage practices and the exposure risk to pollinators: A case study in the North China Plain

Hongyu Mu et al.

Summary: This study investigated pesticide application patterns in different agricultural areas in Quzhou County, North China, and evaluated the exposure risks of bees to pesticides. It was found that more than half of the farmers misused pesticides, especially orchard owners. Misuse of pesticides significantly increased the exposure risk to bees, and correct pesticide use and training experience were positively correlated. The study suggests the need for more sustainable pest and pollinator management strategies, as well as implementing farmer education and training programs.

A disease spot segmentation method using comprehensive color feature with multi-resolution channel and region growing

N. Jothiaruna et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel method for segmenting disease spots in leaves using image processing techniques, addressing challenges such as uneven illumination and clutter background. By utilizing color spaces and gray scale conversions, including H component of HSV, L*a*b* color spaces, and ExR, as well as weighted multiresolution channel for color to gray scale conversion, an average segmentation accuracy of 94% is achieved. The clutter background issues are resolved using region growing method with interactive seed selection under real field conditions.
