A Review on the Performance of Linear and Mixed Integer Two-Stage Stochastic Programming Software

Juan J. Torres et al.

Summary: This paper presents a tutorial on state-of-the-art software for solving two-stage (mixed-integer) linear stochastic programs and provides a list of software designed for this purpose. It classifies the methodologies based on decomposition alternatives and variable types. The paper reviews the fundamentals of Benders decomposition, dual decomposition, and progressive hedging, along with possible improvements and variants. It also presents extensive numerical results to showcase the properties and performance of each algorithm using various software implementations, including DECIS, FORTSP, PySP, and DSP. Finally, it discusses the strengths and weaknesses of each methodology and proposes future research directions.

Joint Optimization of a Dry Port with Multilevel Location and Container Transportation: The Case of Northeast China

Feng Pian et al.

Summary: This study calculates the costs associated with dry port construction and operations, transportation, time, and the environment, and constructs a joint optimization model to minimize the total cost. Through empirical analysis, it was found that building seven dry ports in the road-rail mode in Northeast China could significantly reduce the economic and environmental costs of container transportation.

Dry Port-Seaport Logistics Network Construction under the Belt and Road Initiative: A Case of Shandong Province in China

Jingci Xie et al.

Summary: China's dry ports have experienced rapid development in recent years, largely due to the Belt and Road initiative. With fierce competition among ports, the coastal province of Shandong is making use of the initiative to enhance its competitiveness by establishing a dry port-seaport logistics network. Through complex network theory and the TOPSIS method, a multi-objective optimization model has been developed to reduce logistics transportation costs and environmental pollution in the region.
