Towards a theoretical foundation of PID control for uncertain nonlinear systems

Cheng Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the application of PID control in nonlinear uncertain systems. By constructing a three-dimensional parameter set and selecting PID parameters based on certain conditions, the global stability of the closed-loop systems and the convergence of the regulation error to zero can be achieved. In addition, the study also examines the simpler PI and PD control, providing necessary and sufficient conditions for the selection of PI parameters for a class of one-dimensional non-affine uncertain systems. These theoretical results explicitly demonstrate the strong robustness of PID control to both the nonlinear uncertainties of the system and the selection of controller parameters.

New Results on Stabilization of Port-Hamiltonian Systems via PID Passivity-Based Control

Pablo Borja et al.

Summary: This article introduces new results for the design of PID passivity-based controllers for pH systems. The main contributions include new algebraic conditions for explicit solutions, revealing the negative impact of dissipation obstacles, and proposing a new PID-PBC with two passive outputs. Adding a derivative term to the control enhances transient performance and extends the application of PID-PBC.

Adaptive Regulation of Discrete-Time Nonaffine Systems With Parametric Uncertainty

Wei Lin et al.

Summary: This article investigates the global adaptive stabilization problem for discrete-time nonlinearly parameterized systems with nonaffine inputs. By utilizing the notion of passivity and the idea of small bounded feedback, a discrete-time adaptive controller is proposed to globally adaptively stabilize a class of non-affine systems with unknown parameters, under certain stability and controllabilitylike rank conditions.

Modulating functions based model-free fractional order differentiators using a sliding integration window

Yan-Qiao Wei et al.

Summary: This paper designs model-free fractional order differentiators to estimate the fractional derivatives of an unknown signal from its discrete and noisy observation. New fractional integration by parts formulas are first introduced for this purpose, and the generalized modulating functions method is applied to provide algebraic integral formulas involving the integer order derivatives of the signal.

Control of Nonlinear Uncertain Systems by Extended PID

Cheng Zhao et al.

Summary: The article discusses the capability of the classical PID controller in dealing with second-order nonlinear uncertain systems and provides analytic design methods for selecting PID parameters. The extension of the classical PID control to high-order affine-nonlinear uncertain systems does not require special system structures and can stabilize the system while ensuring rapid convergence of regulation error to zero under suitable conditions on nonlinearity and uncertainty of the systems.

On Integrating Uncertainty Estimator Into PI Control for a Class of Nonlinear Uncertain Systems

Wenchao Xue et al.

Summary: This article discusses integrating uncertainty estimator into PI controller for better robustness and transient performance against uncertain nonlinear coupling dynamics and time-varying disturbances. It covers the descriptions for the sizes of three kinds of uncertainties, tuning laws of ESO, and the importance of tuning the bandwidth of ESO for desired transient performance. Furthermore, it is shown that stronger disturbance rejection at low frequency can be achieved by integrating the uncertainty estimator module.

Optimal Control Computation for Nonlinear Fractional Time-Delay Systems with State Inequality Constraints

Chongyang Liu et al.

Summary: This paper develops a numerical method for solving a class of delay fractional optimal control problems involving nonlinear time-delay systems with state inequality constraints. The method involves proposing a numerical integration scheme, deriving gradient formulas, and developing a gradient-based optimization algorithm to solve the resulting discrete-time optimal control problem. Several example problems are solved to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed solution approach.

Technical report: PID design of second-order non-linear uncertain systems with fractional order operations

Song Chen et al.

Summary: This study examines a control problem regarding the regulation of fractional-order systems controlled by fractional order proportional-integral-derivative controllers ((PID mu)-D-lambda). The stability of (PID mu)-D-lambda-based control systems is analyzed, showing that under certain conditions related to system uncertainties, the closed-loop systems can achieve global stabilization. Finally, a simulation is conducted to confirm the results.

Image Denoising Based on Fractional Gradient Vector Flow and Overlapping Group Sparsity as Priors

Ahlad Kumar et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new regularization term, LF-GGVF, based on L1-norm for image denoising, which improves denoising performance by utilizing fractional order variational method and overlapping group sparsity. The approximation of fractional order derivatives using Riemann-Liouville derivative boosts denoising performance within the optimization framework. Numerical optimization is carried out using ADMM and split Bregman techniques, demonstrating better noise suppression and edge preservation compared to other methods in experimental validation.
