Stable fouling resistance of polyethylene (PE) separator membrane via oxygen plasma plus zwitterion grafting

Wentao Zhai et al.

Summary: This study explored a potential solution of low-cost and fouling resistant microfiltration/ultrafiltration membranes using a low-cost polyethylene lithium-ion battery separator. A cascade process of plasma treatment and zwitterion grafting was designed to enhance the hydrophilicity and fouling resistance of the membranes. The zwitterion grafted membrane showed the best antifouling performance and improved flux recovery rate while reducing irreversible fouling rate.

Zwitterionic/active ester block polymers as multifunctional coatings for polyurethane-based substrates

Zhuangzhang Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a general strategy was reported to address bacterial-associated infection, blood coagulation, and tissue adhesion on polyurethane substrates. Well-defined block polymers were constructed on the substrates and showed significant anti-fouling and anti-attachment properties against protein, bacteria, platelets, and cells. The coating also improved the lubricating property of the substrates without compromising their mechanical performance.
