Stability and thermal conductivity of TiO2/water nanofluids: A comparison of the effects of surfactants and surface modification

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, gamma-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) modified TiO2/water nanofluids were prepared using surface modification technique. The characteristics of the modified nanoparticles were investigated, showing that the grafting efficiency of GPTMS increased with reaction temperature and reactant mass ratio. The stability and thermal conductivity of the prepared nanofluids were investigated, indicating that the GPTMS modified nanofluids exhibited excellent stability and higher thermal conductivity.

Effects of surface modification and surfactants on stability and thermophysical properties of TiO2/water nanofluids

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study showed that Tetramethylammonium hydroxide and 3-aminpropyltriethoxysilane treatment can enhance the dispersion stability of TiO2/water nanofluids. Increasing nanoparticle concentration leads to higher viscosity of nanofluids, while temperature rise results in decreased viscosity. The thermal conductivity and effective thermal conductivity of nanofluids increase with temperature and nanoparticle concentration.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of functionalized-multi walled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs/water) nanofluid on stability and thermophysical properties. The results show that the optimum volume concentration of 0.10 vol.% exhibits the best stability and enhanced thermal conductivity. The research provides insights for incorporating the optimum sonication duration in nanofluid studies.

Influence of amphoteric and anionic surfactants on stability, surface tension, and thermal conductivity of Al2O3/water nanofluids

Seungyeop Baek et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of surfactants on the dispersion, stability, and thermophysical characteristics of 0.5%-alumina/distilled water nanofluid. Results showed that different types and blending ratios of surfactants can lead to varied properties in nanofluids, with amphoteric surfactants causing instability in alumina nanofluids. The research indicates that surfactants play a significant role in determining the properties of alumina nanofluids.

The effect of boiling in a thermosyphon on surface tension and contact angle of silica and graphene oxide nanofluids

Agnieszka Kujawska et al.

Summary: Thermosyphons are efficient heat transfer devices that can be enhanced by using nanofluids. The impact of nanofluids is most significant in the boiling process in the evaporator section, where nanoparticles tend to deposit on the heater's surface, altering the characteristics of the nanofluid.

The changes induced by pH in TiO2/water nanofluids: Stability, thermophysical properties and thermal performance

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that TiO2/water nanofluids are more stable when further away from the isoelectric point. Dynamic viscosity is closely related to stability, while thermal conductivity depends on the degree of aggregation. Additionally, there are differences in thermal conductivity of nanofluids at different pH levels.

Influence of solid surface, temperature and concentration on contact angle of water-FeC nanofluid

Angel Huminic et al.

Summary: The experimental results show that the dynamic contact angle decreases as the temperature increases. The wettability of aluminum-FeC nanofluid is better than that of copper-FeC nanofluid and stainless steel-FeC nanofluid, and the average contact angle decreases with the increase of nanofluid concentration.

Experimental study on contact angle of water based Si-C nanofluid

Gabriela Huminic et al.

Summary: The experimental study investigated the effects of solid surface, concentration, and temperature on dynamic contact angles of water and water based Si-C nanofluid. It was found that the contact angle of nanofluids decreases with increasing temperature and nanoparticles concentration, and the wettability of nanofluids on solid surfaces is better than water. Different solid surfaces exhibit varying degrees of wettability with the Si-C nanofluid, with Cu/Si-C nanofluid showing the best performance.
