Summary: This study assessed the validity of different tools for diagnosing malnutrition in acute exacerbated COPD patients, and found that AND-ASPEN tool was the most accurate and predictive, while ESPEN consensus was associated with prolonged hospital length of stay.

Summary: Diagnosis of malnutrition based on the GLIM criteria is effective in predicting adverse postoperative clinical outcomes in patients with gastric cancer, and there is moderate agreement between GLIM criteria and PG-SGA in diagnosing malnutrition.

Relationship between malnutrition and the presence of symptoms of anxiety and depression in hospitalized cancer patients

Francisco Jose Sanchez-Torralvo et al.

Summary: Anxiety and depression are common issues among cancer patients, particularly those who are hospitalized. This study found that about half of hospitalized cancer patients may have symptoms of anxiety, and nearly half may have symptoms of depression. Furthermore, malnourished patients were more likely to experience anxiety and depression symptoms.

The GLIM criteria for defining malnutrition can predict physical function and prognosis in patients with cardiovascular disease

Yoshifumi Kootaka et al.

Summary: A study comparing GLIM and ESPEN criteria for defining malnutrition in cardiovascular disease patients found that malnutrition defined by GLIM criteria was associated with low physical function and increased mortality risk. Malnutrition defined by both GLIM and ESPEN criteria was significantly related to all-cause mortality.

Feasibility of a multimodal intervention on malnutrition in patients with lung cancer during primary anti-neoplastic treatment

Randi Tobberup et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate a multimodal intervention targeting nutritional status in patients with non-small cell lung cancer, and found that a larger proportion of patients in the intervention group gained skeletal muscle. Dietary counselling and fish oil use were effective strategies, while motivation for unsupervised physical intervention was low.

The GLIM criteria as an effective tool for nutrition assessment and survival prediction in older adult cancer patients

Xi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the GLIM criteria can be used in elderly cancer patients to evaluate malnutrition and predict survival outcomes. The development of a nomogram based on the GLIM domains also provides more accurate prognostic predictions.

Summary: The study supports the effectiveness of GLIM criteria in diagnosing malnutrition and predicting survival among lung cancer patients. The methods for diagnosing malnutrition in LC patients using GLIM criteria showed good performance and were effective in determining the nutrition status of patients.

Prevalence and prognostic implications of malnutrition as defined by GLIM criteria in elderly patients with heart failure

Susumu Hirose et al.

Summary: Using the GLIM criteria and GNRI, it was found that 42.4% and 46.5% of elderly patients with heart failure were malnourished, respectively. Malnutrition was associated with a higher mortality rate and showed independent prognostic value. The GLIM criteria showed significant improvement in prognostic predictive ability compared to GNRI.

PG-SGA SF in nutrition assessment and survival prediction for elderly patients with cancer

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of malnutrition in elderly cancer patients using the nutritional assessment tool PG-SGA SF. Malnutrition was found to be significantly associated with worse overall survival, impacting quality of life and leading to more frequent nutrition impact symptoms. The study also revealed that PG-SGA SF improved the predictive ability of the TNM classification system for mortality in elderly cancer patients.

A poorer nutritional status impacts quality of life in a sample population of elderly cancer patients

Tatiane Correia Rios et al.

Summary: The study found that poor nutritional status is significantly associated with worsened physical, social, emotional, and functional well-being QoL domains in elderly cancer patients. Poor nutritional status is an independent risk factor for worsening QoL. Future policies aimed at particularly vulnerable populations may improve QoL and health outcomes.

Mapping Health-Related Quality of Life, Anxiety, and Depression in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer Diagnosed with Malnutrition Defined by GLIM

Ylva Tiblom Ehrsson et al.

Summary: The study showed that nutrition status is closely related to health-related quality of life, anxiety, and depression in head and neck cancer patients. More patients reported anxiety at the beginning of treatment, while more reported depression at seven weeks. Targeted support is needed during care, and long-term survivors need strategies to cope with the consequences.

Summary: Malnutrition diagnosed with the GLIM criteria is negatively associated with activities of daily living (ADL) and discharge destination in patients with acute stroke. Further research is needed to explore the impact of malnutrition on functional outcomes in stroke patients using these criteria.
