Stall Behaviour in a Mixed-flow Compressor with Axial Slot Casing Treatment

Qiu Jiahui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the stall mechanism of a mixed-flow compressor with and without axial slot casing treatment (ASCT) through unsteady full-annulus simulations. The results showed that the mixed-flow compressor experienced rotating stall regardless of the presence of ASCT. The flow structure involved tip leakage flow and passage vortices, causing low-pressure and high-pressure regions during the throttling process. These findings are significant for the design of casing treatment in mixed-flow compressor and stall warning in next-generation aeroengines.

Enhancement of thermal rectification effect based on zigzag interfaces in bi-segment thermal rectifier using bulk materials

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the thermal rectification effect and its application in a bi-segment thermal rectifier. By introducing zigzag-structure interfaces into the system, the thermal rectification ratio can be improved, enhancing the thermal rectification effect. The finite element method is used for numerical calculations, and the heat flux through the system is calculated based on Fourier's law. The results show that the zigzag interface can increase the thermal rectification ratio by more than 36% compared to a flat interface.

A study on the upper limit efficiency of solar still by optimizing the mass transfer

Guilong Peng et al.

Summary: Solar still is a low-cost and easy-to-maintain green energy desalination system, and enhancing mass transfer can significantly improve its performance. This study provides the theoretical upper limit performance of solar still, assuming ideal heat and mass transfer conditions. The results show that the mass transfer is sensitive to inner air circulation, and reaching the upper limit is achievable by enhancing mass transfer. Experimental results confirm the feasibility of the theoretical upper limits, and using a fan can approach these limits with low additional cost.

Thermal rectification mechanism of composite cylinders with temperature and stress-dependent interface thermal resistance

Jianning Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the thermoelastic coupling response of a cylindrical thermal rectifier and analyzes the effects of initial interface gap, boundary conditions, geometry parameters, and material pairs on the thermal rectification ratio using numerical methods. The results show that the equivalent thermal conductance is the key factor for optimizing the thermal rectification ratio, and adjusting the initial interface gap can switch the status of the interface gap and achieve the maximum thermal rectification ratio.

Thermal rectification of solid-liquid phase change thermal diode under the effect of supercooling

Zhaonan Meng et al.

Summary: The SL-PCTD composed of calcium chloride hexahydrate and paraffin wax demonstrates potential for thermal rectification, with the supercooling effect of CaCl2 center dot 6H(2)O playing a significant role. In the forward direction, natural convection is sustained below the melting temperature due to supercooling, while in the reverse direction, manual supercooling release can achieve a high thermal rectification ratio.
