Experimental study on capillary discharge for laser plasma wake acceleration

Zhu Xin-Zhe et al.

Summary: This study reports on the capillary discharging and laser guiding experiments conducted at the Laboratory for Laser Plasmas at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Plasma channels were formed by discharging gas-filled capillaries, and laser guidance in these channels was studied. The results showed that the laser pulse could be successfully guided by the preformed plasma channel when the channel depth matched the focal spot.

Controlled acceleration of GeV electron beams in an all-optical plasma waveguide

Kosta Oubrerie et al.

Summary: Laser-plasma accelerators have the potential to generate high-energy electron beams, but maintaining stable electric fields and high-quality beams is a challenge. This paper presents a novel experiment combining laser-plasma waveguides and controlled injection techniques to achieve reliable and efficient acceleration of high-quality electron beams.

Propagation of axiparabola-focused laser pulses in uniform plasmas

Pan-Fei Geng et al.

Summary: This paper studies the propagation of axiparabola-focused lasers in plasmas and finds that they can stably propagate at low intensity but become unstable at relativistic intensity. To mitigate the unstable propagation, three schemes are proposed: adding a radially dependent pulse front delay, placing the plasma away from the beginning of the focal line, and using an axiparabola mirror with a negative focal line.

Colorless movement of focal spot with arbitrary velocity based on mirrors with special shape

Quanping Fan et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new method to achieve arbitrary speed movement of focal spot with colorless using an aspherical mirror and a stepped mirror. The relationship between the surface of the aspherical mirror and the wavefront of the laser is derived by geometric optics, and the stepped mirror is utilized to create a stepped wavefront to separate the relationship between the shape of the wavefront and the direction of the laser. Time-dependent simulations verify the real focusing property with diffraction effects considered, resulting in focal spots with speeds of 0.5c, 2c, and -c.

Optimization of the beam quality in ionization injection by a tailoring gas profile*

Ye Cui et al.

Summary: A new scheme is proposed to improve the electron beam quality of ionization-induced injection in laser wakefield acceleration by tailoring gas profile. Two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations show that the ionization-induced injection mainly occurs in high-density stage and automatically truncates in low-density stage. Compensating for beam loading effect can lead to improved beam quality and the generation of a quasi-monoenergetic electron beam with specific energy and energy spread under certain laser-plasma conditions.
