H/F Substitution induced switchable coordination bonds in a cyano-bridged hybrid double perovskite ferroelastic

Xiao-Gang Chen et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional cyano-bridged double perovskite ferroelastic compound was constructed by introducing switchable C-F-K coordination bonds, which undergoes an m3mF2/m-type ferroelastic phase transition through H/F substitution.

Origin of Ferroelectricity in Two Prototypical Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Perovskites

Kai Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the nature of ferroelectric phase transitions in hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite ferroelectrics was investigated through structural analysis and lattice dynamics calculations. It was found that the vibrational entropy change of the lattice, along with the rotational entropy change, plays a crucial role in the ferroelectric transition, suggesting that both local and extended lattice fluctuations can be manipulated to create ferroelectricity.

Dangling Octahedra Enable Edge States in 2D Lead Halide Perovskites

Yan Qin et al.

Summary: This study reveals the atomic and electronic origins of edge states (ES) in 2D lead halide perovskites (LHPs), demonstrating that the rotational symmetry elevation of PbBr6 octahedra at the crystal layer edges gives rise to special ES. These ES can be manipulated by controlling external fields and interact with phonons to facilitate radiative recombination, counter to the suppressive role commonly observed in conventional semiconductors.

A Crystalline Supramolecular Rotor Functioned by Dual Ultrasmall Polar Rotators†

Wang Li et al.

Summary: This research presents a novel crystalline molecular rotor with two discrete polar rotators. Experimental results show that these rotators experience an enhanced rotation with increasing temperature, and can be controlled by a reversible polar-to-polar structural phase transition.

Elastic properties related energy conversions of coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks

Kai Li et al.

Summary: Coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks have gained significant attention in materials science due to their versatile structures and adjustable functionality. The mechanical properties of these materials are crucial for their reliability and durability in potential industrial applications. Moreover, the elastic properties of coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks are closely related to energy conversion processes such as piezoelectricity, barocaloric effects, and thermoelectricity. This review summarizes the elastic properties of these materials, discusses their intrinsic relationship with energy properties, and highlights current challenges and future trends in this promising field.
