Conceptual design and techno-economic analysis of a coproduction system for ethylene glycol and LNG from steel mill off-gases

Jinliang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel coproduction system for ethylene glycol and liquid natural gas from pollutive off-gases of steel mill plants. The optimized process shows higher thermodynamic and technoeconomic performance compared to conventional standalone processes. Additionally, sensitivity analysis demonstrates that this system is less influenced by fluctuations in raw materials, utilities consumption, and production capacity.

Energy consumption and CO2 emissions of petroleum coke-to-methanol with/without carbon capture using process modeling and life cycle analysis

Dong Xiang et al.

Summary: Petroleum coke, a by-product of oil refineries, can be efficiently converted to syngas for methanol production through gasification technology, but this process may result in significant greenhouse gas emissions. Studies have shown that with carbon capture, the conversion of petroleum coke to methanol can significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

Environmental Burdens of China's Propylene manufacturing: Comparative life-cycle assessment and scenario analysis

Lin Lv et al.

Summary: This study compared the environmental impacts of four typical propylene production routes in China using the life-cycle assessment methodology. The results showed trade-offs across nine environmental dimensions, making it difficult to rank the environmental advantages of each production route. Raw materials consumption was found to dominate the environmental burdens of the different routes, with the highest environmental loads in the coal to olefin process. The findings highlight the need for close attention to the feedstock shift in the propylene industry to promote environmental sustainability in the Chinese chemical manufacturing industry.
