Comparison of surface integrity for dry and wet drilling of 49Fe-49Co-2V alloy

Yuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of wet and dry drilling on the surface integrity of 49Fe-49Co-2V alloy holes. The results show that dry drilling leads to larger surface roughness and thickness of refined-grain region compared to wet drilling. Wet drilling induces more work hardening, while chippings occur in the exits of wet drilled holes due to material brittleness, which can be avoided by dry drilling.

In-process adaptive milling for large-scale assembly interfaces of a vertical tail driven by real-time vibration data

Xiong Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, an in-process adaptive milling method was proposed for large-scale assembly interfaces based on real-time machining vibration data. The method improved the machining quality and efficiency of the assembly interface by dividing the milling operation, estimating the time-varying in-operation frequency response functions, and optimizing the cutting parameters.

Stability analysis of robotic longitudinal-torsional composite ultrasonic milling

Lianjun Sun et al.

Summary: Industrial robots face limitations in the aviation industry due to milling chatter caused by weak rigidity. The research demonstrates that longitudinal-torsional composite ultrasonic milling (CUM-LT) has a greater advantage in suppressing chatter compared to rotary ultrasonic milling (RUM). By applying CUM-LT technology to robotic milling systems, vibration can be avoided and system stability can be improved.

Tool vibration effect on surface roughness of polymethylmethacrylate in diamond turning

Kuldeep A. Mahajan et al.

Summary: The study found that feed, cutting, and infeed vibrations affect the tool in three directions, with the infeed vibration causing a "tool jump" that leaves material uncut below it. By experimentation and analysis, optimal machining parameters for reducing surface roughness and minimizing vibration responses were determined.

Electrochemical polishing of microfluidic moulds made of tungsten using a bi-layer electrolyte

Xingying Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method for polishing tungsten moulds using dynamic electrochemical polishing with a bi-layer NaOH electrolyte, which addresses the issue of pitting during polishing and improves the uniformity of material removal. After 10 cycles of dynamic ECP, a tungsten mould with a mirror surface and drastically reduced surface roughness is obtained, demonstrating the promising approach of dynamic ECP for efficient and uniform polishing of tungsten moulds with microscopic features.

Theoretical modeling and machining experiments of cylindrical microstructure assisted by single-point diamond turning

Jingjin Li et al.

Summary: Two modeling theories and methods for micro-features were studied, along with a corresponding tool turning trajectory planning method. An error theory was proposed to optimize cutting parameters and a precision-driven turning trajectory planning method was developed. Experimental results confirmed the reliability of these theories, with surface roughness and form accuracy meeting expectations.

Development of an ANN model for prediction of tool wear in turning EN9 and EN24 steel alloy

Rahmath Ulla Baig et al.

Summary: This research utilizes vibration signatures and artificial neural networks to predict tool life during machining of EN9 and EN24 steel alloy. By recording tool acceleration during machining and measuring flank wear width, an effective model for predicting tool life was developed with a regression coefficient of 0.9964. The proposed methodology of indirect tool wear measurement is efficient and cost-effective for predicting tool life in the machining industry, thereby avoiding catastrophic tool failure.

Influence of Unbalanced Electromagnetic Force and Air Supply Pressure Fluctuation in Air Bearing Spindles on Machining Surface Topography

Yazhou Sun et al.

Summary: This study addressed the measurement of MRE and APF in an air bearing spindle through testing machining surface topography. It proposed a theoretical model of machining surface topography considering MRE and APF for the first time, revealing that MRE and APF resulted in periodic fluctuations of the machining surface topography, leading to grooved surfaces on the overall surface topography.
