A continuous flow generator of organic hypochlorites for the neutralization of chemical warfare agent simulants

Victor-Emmanuel H. Kassin et al.

Summary: This study reports the development of a continuous flow generator that produces highly reactive organic hypochlorites for the chemical neutralization of sulfur-based chemical warfare agent (CWA) simulants. The generator uses low environmental footprint resources and equipment, as well as widely available and cheap chemicals. The new neutralization protocol offers flexibility and efficiency.

N-Heterocyclic Carbene/Carboxylic Acid Co-Catalysis Enables Oxidative Esterification of Demanding Aldehydes/Enals, at Low Catalyst Loading

Wacharee Harnying et al.

Summary: Simple carboxylic acids, like benzoic acid, have been found to enhance the activity of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysts in the oxidative esterification of aldehydes. A protocol using a novel N-Mes-/N-2,4,6-trichlorophenyl 1,2,4-triazolium salt as catalyst and benzoic acid as co-catalyst was developed for the transformation of a wide range of sterically hindered alpha- and beta-substituted aliphatic aldehydes/enals. The observed effect is believed to be due to the carboxylic acid-induced acceleration of acyl transfer from azolium enolate intermediates.

Zn Promoted Mg-Al Mixed Oxides-Supported Gold Nanoclusters for Direct Oxidative Esterification of Aldehyde to Ester

Jie Li et al.

Summary: In this study, Zn-Mg-Al mixed oxides with supported gold nanoclusters were prepared for the direct oxidative esterification of aldehyde and alcohol. The presence of small amounts of Zn2+ ions enhanced the interaction between gold and the support, reducing the particle size of gold. The Au-25/Zn0.05MgAl-400 catalyst showed the best performance in the oxidative esterification reaction.
