Multiscale modelling of the radical-induced chemistry of acetohydroxamic acid in aqueous solution

Jacy K. Conrad et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive, multiscale computer model for investigating the radical-induced degradation of AHA in acidic aqueous solutions. The model predictions were verified by experimental results, showing excellent agreement between calculation and experiment.

Radiolytic degradation of sulphonated BTP and acetohydroxamic acid under EURO-GANEX process conditions

I Sanchez-Garcia et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the stability of molecules in EURO-GANEX aqueous phase by studying the radiolysis of AHA and SO3-Ph-BTP in HNO3, using QRS for the first time to measure concentration changes. The results show greater robustness when AHA and SO3-Ph-BTP are irradiated together.

Influence of uranyl complexation on the reaction kinetics of the dodecane radical cation with used nuclear fuel extraction ligands (TBP, DEHBA, and DEHiBA)

Cristian Celis Barros et al.

Summary: Specialized extractant ligands such as TBP, DEHBA, and DEHiBA have been developed for uranium recovery from used nuclear fuel. Complexation with uranium led to an increase in the reaction rate coefficients of DEHBA and DEHiBA, while having negligible effect on TBP. Quantum mechanical calculations suggest that the difference in reaction kinetics is attributed to the energetics and electron density distribution of the reaction pathways.

Radiation-induced effects on the extraction properties of hexa-n-octylnitrilo-triacetamide (HONTA) complexes of americium and europium

Tomohiro Toigawa et al.

Summary: The irradiation of the ligand HONTA under envisioned SELECT process conditions was studied, with quantification of its radiolysis and formation of degradation products by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS. The decay of HONTA was found to be exponential with increasing dose, leading to an impact on the distribution ratios of Am-243 and Eu-154. Multiple degradation products, including dioctylamine, were detected, and the loss of HONTA with absorbed gamma dose was attributed to reaction with the n-dodecane radical cation (R+).
