Theoretical investigations on the HOMO-LUMO gap and global reactivity descriptor studies, natural bond orbital, and nucleus-independent chemical shifts analyses of 3-phenylbenzo[d]thiazole-2(3H)-imine and itspara-substituted derivatives: Solvent and substituent effects

Marzieh Miar et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of electron-releasing and electron-withdrawing groups at para positions on the molecular structure of synthesized compounds in selected solvents and in the gas phase. Results show that intramolecular interactions between substituents and the electron donor-acceptor centers of the thiazole ring influence the relative stability of the compounds. Charge-transfer possibilities within the molecules are revealed through dipole moment values and energy gaps between occupied and unoccupied molecular orbitals.

Red light-emitting Carborane-BODIPY dyes: Synthesis and properties of visible-light tuned fluorophores with enhanced boron content

Chiara Bellomo et al.

Summary: A small library of 2,6- and 3,5-distyrenyl-substituted carborane-BODIPY dyes was efficiently synthesized by Pd-catalyzed Heck coupling reaction, allowing for increased molecular diversity and enhanced emission quantum yields. The compounds exhibited significant bathochromic shift compared to parent fluorophore scaffolds, with absorption and emission patterns being practically unaffected by different substituents or carborane isomers.

Theoretical characterization of photoactive molecular systems based on BODIPY-derivatives for the design of organic solar cells

Duvalier Madrid-Usuga et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory and time-dependent calculations, a series of small molecules based on Bodipy-Triphenylamine were characterized for their impact on the performance of organic solar cells. The results suggest that the BTPA III system has higher absorption efficiency and exciton dissociation capability, making it one of the most promising donor materials.

Twisted BODIPY derivative: intersystem crossing, electron spin polarization and application as a novel photodynamic therapy reagent†

Yu Dong et al.

Summary: The photophysical properties of a heavy atom-free BODIPY derivative with a twisted pi-conjugated framework were investigated, showing efficient intersystem crossing and a long-lived triplet state. The electron spin selectivity of the twisted structure was found to differ from that of the spin orbital coupling effect, with potential applications in photodynamic therapy demonstrated through efficient singlet oxygen photosensitizing.
