N self-doped hierarchically porous carbon derived from biomass as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of tetracycline antibiotics

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a N self-doped hierarchically porous carbon adsorbent (LPC-NC) was synthesized from biomass and used to remove tetracyclines in surface water. Experimental and theoretical studies showed that LPC-NC exhibited high adsorption capacity for tetracyclines due to the presence of self-doped pyridinic-N species. The hierarchically porous structure of LPC-NC was confirmed to promote the adsorption of tetracyclines. These findings provide new insights for the design of N-doped carbon-based adsorbents for the efficient removal of tetracyclines.

Effect of Fe-N modification on the properties of biochars and their adsorption behavior on tetracycline removal from aqueous solution

Yanglu Mei et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Fe-N modified biochar produced by mixing rice straw with FeCl3·6H2O and urea showed enhanced adsorption capacity for TC due to the presence of more functional groups and increased surface area and pore volume. The adsorption mechanism of TC on Fe-N-RSBC involved pore filling, hydrogen-bond interaction, surface complexation, and pi-pi interaction. Fe-N-RSBC can be effectively used as an adsorbent for TC removal from aqueous solution.

New use for biochar derived from bovine manure for tetracycline removal

Jiawei Zhao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the physicochemical properties of bovine manure biochar obtained at different temperatures and their adsorption of tetracycline. The results showed that both BC-500 and BC-700 had high TC removal rates, with different maximum adsorption capacities, and were well described by pseudo-second order kinetics. Even after multiple cycles, the biochar still maintained satisfactory removal efficiencies, mainly through hydrophobic interactions and pi-pi electron donor acceptor interactions.
