[Bmim]FeCl4 mediated inhibition and toxicity during anaerobic digestion: Dose-response kinetics, biochar-dependent detoxification and microbial resistance

Jingyi Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential toxicity and biochar-dependent detoxification of [Bmim]FeCl4 in microbial communities. The results showed that [Bmim]FeCl4 inhibited methane production and generated more dissolved organic matter. Low concentration of [Bmim]FeCl4 stimulated enzyme activity, while high concentration caused cell damage and increased energy consumption. Furthermore, [Bmim]FeCl4 and biochar were found to be the main drivers for microbial community succession.

Insights of enhancing methane production under high-solid anaerobic digestion of wheat straw by calcium peroxide pretreatment and zero valent iron addition

Wenjing Tian et al.

Summary: The combination of CaO2 pretreatment and ZVI addition effectively enhances the anaerobic digestion of wheat straw by promoting hydrolysis and acidification processes, leading to increased biogas production. ZVI improves enzyme activity and provides electrons for the conversion of CaO2 to methane, resulting in higher methane content in the digesters.
