Fluoride removal by thermally treated egg shells with high adsorption capacity, low cost, and easy acquisition

Jae-In Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, eggshells treated at 800 degrees C were found to be highly efficient adsorbents for fluoride removal with a maximum adsorption capacity of 258.28 mg/g at pH 7 and 25 degrees C, 18 times larger than that of activated alumina. The fluoride removal mechanism involved the formation of calcium fluorite (CaF2) as revealed by XRD and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. The presence of anions was found to decrease fluoride adsorption, with the impact following the order: HPO43- > HCO3- >> SO42- > Cl-.

Kinetics, Thermodynamics, and Isotherms of Methylene Blue Adsorption Study onto Cassava Stem Activated Carbon

Nurul Syuhada Sulaiman et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of cassava stem in activated carbon form for methylene blue dye uptake, showing that activated cassava stem can effectively adsorb dye from water. Increasing adsorbent dosage and pH enhance the adsorption efficiency, with thermodynamic study indicating endothermic adsorption process and spontaneous adsorption of dye. Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order equation fitting suggest chemisorption process, with activated cassava stem presenting as a low-cost raw material with excellent adsorption characteristics for activated carbon production.

Effect of coagulation on bio-treatment of textile wastewater: Quantitative evaluation and application

Tianzhi Wang et al.

Summary: To tackle the challenges posed by high water consumption, massive wastewater discharge, and pollution risks in textile industries, different countries have adopted different treatment methods based on the location and management of textile enterprises. The complex characteristics of textile wastewater, such as high COD levels and toxic or non-biodegradable substances, present new problems for wastewater treatment plants. Coagulants play a key role in the pretreatment of textile wastewater, helping remove hydrophobic dyes and reduce SS and COD levels.
