Electrochemical sensing of Sudan I using the modified graphite screen-printed electrode

Somayeh Tajik et al.

Summary: The present research has developed a highly sensitive and user-friendly electrochemical sensor, ZnFe2O4/SPE, modified with ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles, for the determination of Sudan I. The sensor exhibits clear catalytic behaviors towards Sudan I oxidation, resulting in reduced oxidation peak potentials and enhanced peak currents. The Sudan I electron transfer coefficient (alpha) and diffusion coefficient (D) have been derived at the modified electrode. The sensor shows a linear response range of 0.1-500.0 μM and a detection limit of 0.03 μM. No interference from other species is observed during the measurement of Sudan I. The sensor successfully determines Sudan I in real samples with reasonable outputs.

Decolourisation of toxic azo dye Fast Red E by three bacterial strains: process optimisation and toxicity assessment

Ramesh S. Masarbo et al.

Summary: This study presents the decolourisation of azo dye Fast Red E by three bacterial strains. The bacterial consortium of all the three strains achieved a decolourisation efficiency of 93% within 18 hours and could decolourise up to 800 mg/L of the dye. The breakdown products of the azo dye were identified and the toxicity of the decolourised medium was significantly reduced.
